Get on board with Jamie’s petition on getting the Government to introduce a tax on sugary drinks!
Last nights show (Thursday 3rd September, 9pm Channel 4 – you can still watch it on catch up) showed how big a problem sugar is and it’s not just fizzy drinks & sweets! Honey, jam, juices, smoothies, fruit bars and fruit roll snacks all count towards our daily intake of ‘free’ sugars and the results are shocking! The NHS is put under pressure because they have to pull kids teeth out due to decay. Plus they are amputating an average of 130 limbs of adults a week due to diabetes! The health system is put under so much pressure and we can all do something about it. Get sugar savvy and teach children on how to be healthy. Cut out all fizzy drinks plus only offer fruit juice and smoothies as an occasional treat. Give fresh whole fruit instead of fruit bars and rolls, you will get all the benefit of the fruit as well as just the juice.
Basically adults should not be having more than 7 teaspoons of ‘free’ sugar per day and kids 7 years and older no more than 6 teaspoons.
